No, none of the island bike shops are permitted to rent E-bikes. M185 is the perimeter loop that most riders complete on their bike ride and it’s leisurely with little elevation change. Only 8.2 miles long and very flat, a ride around the island is manageable for riders both young and old.
All riders are provided with a free bottle of water, and sanitized helmets are provided free of charge (Helmets not required). All adult bikes are provided with a basket (5 LB weight limit) and phone mount. Additionally, on cooler days bike gloves are provided, while on rainy days rain ponchos are available for purchase (while supplies last).
Most riders complete the M185 loop in about one and a half hours, and that time includes about a half hour of stops.
Dress appropriately! Extra baggy / flowing pants and long dresses are not advised and run the risk of becoming entangled with or otherwise dirtied by the bike chain. Closed-toe shoes or boots are similarly recommended; loose sandals are not. Check the weather before leaving on your trip and dress appropriately.
Mackinac Island is all about the bike and offers many bike friendly trails. Most riders start their ride by going on the island perimeter loop M185, an 8.2 mile paved loop that stays along the island coast offering beautiful views of Lake Huron and the natural splendor of Mackinac. For riders looking to see the interior of the island, we have a suggested interior trail that takes you through the middle of the island.
We are located right next to the Shepler’s Ferry dock on Mackinac Island. When you exit the ferry dock, take a right and we will be the first business on the right. We have two rental huts located out front.
Earlier the better! We get very busy in June, July and August, and on holiday weekends like memorial and labor day. To that extent, we recommend early rides to avoid the crowds. If you are here before 10 AM you will thank yourself later!
Yes, several public restrooms are available during your ride. On M185, the public restrooms are located at the half-way point, British Landing. While riding the interior, bathrooms can be found at the top of Arch Rock.
The main attraction on the loop is Arch Rock, a natural rock formation about a mile out of town. You can park your bikes at the bottom and walk up a the stairs to view it from the top. Additionally, you will see Devils Kitchen, a small cave also located on M185. Several small nature centers are also present along the ride.
